Is Michael Blynn Thinking (Hoping?) That Bonnie Schwartzbaum Got Arrested?

Well, he might have been hoping, but actually it was the Memorial Day festivities in the park and Bonnie was talking with Chief Shannon about things like crime in the city (it's gone down a bit) and what his ideas are to reduce it even more.

The shot of Michael was taken on another day during the campaign. Why he insists on keeping his collar buttoned, sleeves rolled down, and tie neatly knotted in all this heat mystifies everyone. Well, it did seem to attract this blonde young lady, young enough to be his grandaughter, but he might not get away with it as easily as Bill Clinton did. Esther might not be as forgiving as Hillary.

Patriotism is Contagious ~ And Fashionable

This looks like it'll make for a good Fourth of July photograph. Actually I was wandering around the park on Memorial Day, May 30th, when I spotted this patriotic woman. Nobody could walk by without noticing her, for sure. As usual the city was handing out little Amercan flags, so I stood one in my shirt pocket. It looked great against the lighter blue of my shirt.

Councilman Scott Galvin made a good deal with a local flag company for bunches of 3x5 foot flags packed in a plastic bag along with a metal pole and a wall bracket. Any city resident could go to Scott's office at city hall and get one flag for free! I really thought that a lot more people would take advantage of the offer and that the streets would be awash in red, white, and blue. Well, in this neighborhood there's my flag and one on the next block, but he already had that one.

I'll attend tomorrow night's festivities, check out the refreshments, and watch the fireworks. Monkette wants to go too. I'm sure that I'll see this woman there, and I'm wondering what she'll be wearing. Most women don't want to be seen in the same outfit twice!

That Time Of Year Again

Today is Memorial Day, and North Miami did its usual thing with precision drill teams of high school kids, patriotic songs, and the inevitable speeches from our local politicions. We've even gone back to risking the wrath of the Supreme Court with a bit of prayer. Mayor Kevin Burns, Counsilwoman Marie Erlande Steril, and Councilman Scott Galvin were out of town so the speeches segment was shorter than normal.

Actually this photo was shot a couple of weeks ago at some other patriotic event. Had I thought to wear the same shirt this morning nobody reading this would likely have noticed. Since I don't shoot digital this seemed like a great way to do it. Then, heh heh, come July 4th I can use one of today's shots.

I guess maybe a hundred residents showed up on top of the people taking part in the event, a really poor showing for a city with a population estimated at 60,000, but those of us who were there went across the street to the community center for sub sandwiches, chips, cake, and Cokes. No coffee! I ate, walked around and shmoozed a bit with some folks I hadn't seen in awhile, then headed over to Starbucks.
